Wedding Day Makeup With Alex Jones!

It’s wedding season which is one of our favourite times of year! All the happy people, celebration and of course champagne really puts us in an amazing mood. As a beauty brand, it’s only natural that we are interested in wedding makeup, which we are aware can be a tricky thing to master. After all, if there is ever a time when you don’t want to get it wrong then it’s your wedding day!

We wanted to source some top information on wedding day makeup for our CODERS and we decided to ask super talented makeup artist and friend of team CODE, Alex Jones. Not only is Alex a pro, she also got married herself this month so we really couldn’t think of a better person to chat to!

Hi Alex. Congratulations on your wedding! Did you do your own makeup for the big day?

Yes, I did my own make up and hair, mainly because I wasn't going for anything very different to what I would usually do. It was a very chilled wedding!

What style of wedding makeup did you go for?

I went for quite a natural look really, I was keen to go for something timeless. I kept my base quite light with a dewy, cream blush and highlighter. I went for subtle metallics on my eyes with some gel liner finishing with a flick and lots of mascara. I used your lip liner and plumping lipgloss too which really completed my look!

What must-have beauty products did you use on your wedding day?

These are the products I would say are must haves, they were for me! -
Urban Decay makeup fixing spray, Katherine Daniels Urban shield concentrate, sensitive skin cream, smashbox eye primer, Charlotte Tilbury's beauty glow palette, Kiko cream blush, Bobbi brown concealer and foundation stick, Code FFL & VLM and of course your lip products!

Do you have any tips on keeping makeup looking fresh throughout the long day, especially in the summer heat?

I reapplied my lipgloss once in the evening but other than that I didn't touch up my makeup at all, mainly thanks to the fixing spray but also because I used skincare that perfectly suits my skin which meant I didn't get too shiny or too dehydrated. Thankfully it wasn't crazy hot on my wedding day but I would recommend that any summer brides-to-be really prep their skin for staying power, you can buy great blotting paper/ powders to keep with you but if you use primers and long wear makeup products where possible you don't have to worry about melting makeup!

And finally, what would you say to a bride who is unsure or nervous about approaching their wedding day?

I think any bride would be slightly nervous about their big day but my advice would be to just do whatever makes you happy. There's no right or wrong way to plan a wedding or to be a bride, everyone is different, you just need to relax and enjoy every second of your day!
